Tight rules on sulphur emission from ships reduce pollution

Initial Danish results show that tighter rules on sulphur emission from ships have resulted in a significant reduction in sulphur rates in Danish air. On 1 January 2015 new EU rules on sulphur emission from ships came into force. All ships operating in northern EU waters must comply with strict new emission limits.
The Danish Ministry of the Environment and Food has recently monitored sulphur pollution in the air over Denmark. The survey shows that the amount of harmful sulphur has more than halved.
