New Danish legislation governing the construction of the Copenhagen metro

The latest issue of the International Labour Organization's environmental law newsletter includes an article by Attorney and Partner Søren Stenderup Jensen about new Danish legislation governing the construction of the Copenhagen metro.

In April, the Danish Minister of Transport introduced a bill that is to provide a clearer framework for the construction of the Copenhagen Metro. Søren Stenderup Jensen analyses the principal points of the bill, including the implementation of a new environmental impact assessment, compensation packages to neighbours to the construction sites who are exposed to noise and the drafting of a new executive order that is to regulate noise nuisance from the construction of the Copenhagen Metro.

Søren Stenderup Jensen finds that the bill is a good example of Danish politicians being prepared to disregard the general rules of environmental law in an attempt to ensure the progress of large construction projects, and he anticipates more legislation of this type in future.
