FSN Capital to acquire a large minority stake in Obton Group

The leading private equity firm, FSN Capital, has signed an agreement to acquire a 45% stake in Obton Group and enter into a partnership with the founders and management. Obton Group is an alternative investment provider and one of Europe's largest solar energy managers. Plesner acted as lead counsel for FSN Capital.

Funds managed by FSN Capital have agreed to acquire 45% of Obton Group, a Danish based investment provider, providing, developing, structuring and managing solar photovoltaic projects all over the world, as well as real estate through the subsidiary, Koncenton, on behalf of ~4,000 high-net-worth-individuals and institutional investors. The sellers are certain passive minority investors together with the founders and management, who will remain as large stakeholders and in leading positions at the company.

Obton Group was founded in 2008 and has grown considerably in recent years with an increase in earnings before tax from DKK 145m in 2018 to DKK 257m in 2019. Obton significantly contributes to the transition from a black to a green energy system and is the 9th largest manager of solar photovoltaic projects in Europe.

FSN Capital is a leading private equity adviser in the Northern European region with EUR 2.1bn of capital under management.

The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals and is expected to close in Q1 of 2021.
