On 16 January 2019, the Danish government presented its proposal for a new healthcare reform. The proposed reform inter alia includes a proposal for joint procurement of medical devices for the national hospitals.

The expectation is that joint procurement of medical devices will increase competition between the suppliers and thereby release more resources for treatments.

It is proposed that the joint procurement of medical devices shall be conducted by the procurement organization, Amgros, which already conducts all procurements of pharmaceuticals for the national hospitals.

Today, procurements of medical devices for the national hospitals are made by each of the five regions.
