Do you want to take part in the world’s most prestigious moot?

Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot – also known as "Vis Moot" or the "CISG and arbitration moot" – is the world’s largest and most prestigious competition for law students in relation to international commercial law.

The Moot involves a dispute arising out of a contract of sale between two entities from countries that are parties to the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG) and is conducted as an international arbitration in English. Each team is to prepare memoranda for claimant and respondent and is to plead the case before a number of international arbitrators in Vienna during Easter week. In particular the latter is typically a great experience for the students.

The competition has existed for 31 years, and every year it attracts students from almost 400 universities around the world. This year the University of Copenhagen and Plesner Law Firm will set up a Vis Moot team that is to participate in the 2024-2025 Vis Moot taking place during the period October 2024 - April 2025.

The Moot is rated at 30 ECTS. In order to earn merit points for participation, participants must complete the Moot according to the rules governing the course "Written project" (
"Afløsningsprojekt"). In this regard, the students will hand in their memoranda to obtain 15 ECTS, in the fall 2024 and spring 2025 semester, respectively.

The Moot is a unique chance to become involved in practical law work, and it further provides students with an opportunity to meet other students and practitioners in an international and exciting environment. During spring 2025 the team will travel to 4-5 destinations, for example to New York, London and Paris - and not least to Vienna, where the finals will be held.
