In response to Danish and international authorities' increasing focus on compliance and regulatory enforcement and the significant financial and criminal liability risks faced by companies and their management teams, Plesner is upgrading its resources and capabilities in corporate criminal law and compliance. As of 1 September 2020, former head of Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET) and State Prosecutor for Serious Economic and International Crime (SØIK), Attorney Jens Madsen, will join Plesner as a Special Advisor. Together with the other members of Plesner's team, Jens Madsen will help ensure that Plesner has a leading position advising clients in the area of corporate criminal law.

Plesner attorneys behind new book on the Danish Anti-Money Laundering Act
A new annotated Anti-Money Laundering Act was published on 6 January 2020. The Danish Anti-Money Laundering Act (the AML Act) has been extensively amended in recent years, and the book is intended as a work of reference to be used in the practical work in this highly complex and rapidly developing area of the law. The authors of the book, carrying the Danish title “Hvidvaskloven med kommentarer”, are Peter Schradieck and Peter Bang, both attorneys-at-law of Plesner, and Hans Fogtdal, attorney-at-law, of counsel of Plesner and former deputy state prosecutor with the Danish State Prosecutor for Serious Economic and International Crime.

Plesner conducts class action about VAT on media licence fee
In Plesner's opinion, it is unlawful that the Danish Broadcasting Corporation ("DR") charges VAT on the media licence fee. Whether to pay VAT on the media licence fee is a question that depends on the fundamental interpretation of the VAT rules, and it affects more or less the entire Danish population. That is why Plesner will be conducting a class action about the media licence fee. Licence payers can join the class action free of charge.

The digital solution to the new personal data rules
Next spring, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) introducing new stricter rules will enter into force. New book about the Unified Patent Court
Plesner's book "Den europæiske patentdomstol" (in English: The Unified Patent Court) is published by the publishing house Djøf Forlag. The book includes a general account in Danish of the administration of justice at the future Unified Patent Court (UPC). The UPC will significantly strengthen the patent holders' rights and will create a new framework for how businesses handle patents, both patenting businesses and businesses that risk infringing patents.

Plesner Data Protection Law Certificate
When the EU Data Protection Regulation enters into force, it will be a requirement that public authorities appoint a data protection officer (DPO). The requirement also applies to undertakings the core activity of which consists of either processing operations that require extensive monitoring of the data subjects or extensive processing of sensitive data. Further to the new Regulation requirements Plesner offers the "Plesner Data Protection Law Certificate". The Certificate will also be relevant to persons who are to work with the implementation of the Regulation but who are not to be a DPO.
